Radio and TV host, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) is set to leave Radio Gold this week, after 18 years – according to reports. He effectively takes a bow from Home Touch, the show he’s been hosting for some time now, on Friday February 27, we can say. Colleagues at the station have since been informed of his departure – an announcement that has saddened quite a number.
The fashion designer and broadcast journalist, recently hinted of a possible end to his radio career on social media. KOD shared a picture of him and the beautiful Joselyn Dumas on instagram with the caption, “#ThrowbackThursday. This year marks my 18th year in showbiz. Looking back, I know God has been and continues to be good. ..Retirement is close. ..Maybe in a few weeks or days”.
He also thanked all those who one way or the other helped him make it through as he writes. “Thanks to all the loved ones who have made it easy and difficult to sail through, it’s been worth it so far with loads of lessons”.
One of the early disciples of mainstream urban radio, he for years became a must-listened-to voice at the station. After dropping his initial dream of becoming an air force person, he charted a career path in broadcasting. He joined the Larterbiokorshie-based station in 1997, at a time when commercial radio had barely peaked. KOD learnt theropes of radio from his cousins Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) and Yaw Addo Darkwa. Over the last eighteen years that he was with Gold, he hosted almost every programme from the morning show to the evening drive. Born at Winneba in 1977, he hails from Ashanti Mampong, and Akrokyere. He is also a Fashion Designer, Television Presenter, an Events Host and Artiste Manager.
